The booklog actually does accept comments, here (linked at the bottom of the sidebar):

The comments are for the booklog as a whole, though, which I agree might be suboptimal, but I haven’t yet found a satisfying alternative.

My fault! Might I suggest… If you had a separate booklog feed (and your feed links suggest you may have one, but http://anaulin.org/wordpress/booklog/feed/ redirects to http://feeds.feedburner.com/AnaUlin, which is a feed for your main content) you could import that feed into a Tumblr scrapbook. And there you are, individual item commenting! There might be some formatting snags, however, but you might patch them with Yahoo Pipes (I’m a fan of Pipes, btw).
