⭐⭐⭐
This book is a lightweight introduction to race in America, which is not really what I think of as a lightweight topic. There is a lot of “race in America 101”, and at times I found it a tad superficial. But the cringeworthy first-person stories and the easy-read writing style made up a bit for it. I got more engaged again towards the end of the book, where the author talks about the work we can all contribute to in our communities, and the effects it can have on our shared wellbeing. I would heartily recommend this for white people that feel they “don’t get the whole race thing” – it is definitely a palatable introduction to the topic.
